OUR FUNDING
Fish Florida’s funding comes from the Fish Florida specialty license plate, featuring Florida’s saltwater fish – the sailfish. Anglers, boaters, and many others buy the Fish Florida plate to show their dedication to the future of fishing.
Since its founding in 1998, Fish Florida has helped tens of thousands of children participate in fishing clinics throughout Florida. You can help, too! For every license plate sold, Fish Florida receives $22.00. We use this money to give fishing equipment and grants to Florida fishing education programs and to give scholarships to marine and aquatic science students.
Your money goes to kids’ fishing programs, grants and scholarships. Fish Florida spends at least 77% of its license plate revenue on our programs, with a maximum of 25% for administration and markeing. Your sailfish plate helps fishing and conservation programs in Florida. THANK YOU!
Over the past 5 years, funds from the sailfish license plate have supported:
- 500 kids fishing clinics, giving 218,000 kids their own rod and reel so they can learn to fish and be ethical anglers
- 15 Scholarships ($60,000) to marine science students
- 115 Grants ($543,000) to programs teaching fishing and conservation to Florida families.
